Plant Remains from Archaeological Contexts in Pukaskwa National Park, North Central Ontario Vandy E. Bowyer Terra Archaeological Laboratories Cornwall, Ontario Abstract: This paper addresses the potential for examining plant remains from archaeological sites along the north shore of Lake Superior. Analysis of archaeobotanical samples from two Blackduck sites -- North Byron III (1050 BP) and Oiseau Creek (500 BP) -- are discussed. Results suggest that a variety of wood types and fleshy fruits were being utilized by the occupants of the sites. Methodological issues relating to context (near surface versus buried horizons), preservation and sampling are also considered in light of associated boreal forest environments.
